Additions to Sortimo van racking!
The details make the racking complete: holders, electrical fit-out and organisers for the cab. Everything fits into the Sortimo grid and can be retrofitted without drilling — much of it ex stock in Essen.

Small part, big effect
Whether cartridge holder, load space lighting or document tray: well-chosen accessories save handling every day. We are happy to show you which additions suit your racking.
The seven most common retrofits
What businesses typically add to their racking
Once a vehicle has been in use for a year, it is usually the same topics that get retrofitted. These seven cover most of all enquiries:
Ladder holder: Stowing the ladder safely and within quick reach

Inside on the wall and roof lining, or on top with a ladder lift.
There are two routes for the ladder: inside on the wall or roof lining, or on top on the roof rack. Inside, the ladder stays dry and quickly to hand but costs load space width and has to be secured against sliding. On the roof the load space stays free — but the weight of the rack counts towards the roof load, and loading and unloading takes effort. A ladder lift brings the ladder from the roof to hand height with one movement and is worthwhile above all when it is moved several times a day.
Internal holder
Ladder within reach and dry — check the remaining width for shelving and access first.
Roof rack
The load space stays free; roof load, rack weight and remaining payload limit what you can carry.
Ladder lift
Retrofittable to existing rack systems provided roof load and fixing points are suitable.
New vehicle height
After installation, note the changed height visibly in the cab.
Gas bottle and cartridge holders: A fixed place for what must never travel loose

A loose gas bottle in the load space is one of the biggest risks of all under emergency braking. Holders for bottles, cartridges and canisters fit into the system grid and fix the container upright and against sliding. Besides the fixing, ventilation matters: gases and operating fluids belong separately from the rest of the material and in a ventilated area. We provide the space for that as early as the shelf planning so that it does not have to be improvised between two modules later on.
Fixed upright
Holders take the bottle standing and secure it against tipping and sliding.
Transport with ventilation
Keep gases and operating fluids separate from the rest of the material and ventilated.
Anchored in the grid
A connection to the system grid instead of a strap around the nearest strut.
Think of it during planning
The space is planned with the shelving, not squeezed in afterwards.
Load space lighting: LED light where you work and search

In winter the load space turns into a cave from the afternoon onwards — and that is exactly when searching time and packing mistakes arise. LED strips in the shelf profiles light the working areas directly, additional ceiling lights provide general brightness throughout the load space. The switching is decisive: with a door contact the light comes on and goes off with the door, so nobody is left standing in front of a flat battery the next morning. We take care of the electrical connection to suit the vehicle.
Light in the shelving
LED strips in the profiles light pull-outs and compartments directly.
General brightness
Ceiling lights for the whole load space, complementing the task light.
Door contact switching
Light on with the door, off when it closes — no discharging overnight.
Wired in during installation
Cable routes are laid with the racking instead of being run visibly afterwards.
Floor panel and load space floor: Panel protection that improves securing at the same time

The load space floor is the surface that suffers fastest — and the one that is inspected most closely when the vehicle is returned. A coated floor panel protects the sheet metal from scratches and moisture, is easy to clean and at the same time increases the friction that counts for load securing thanks to its non-slip surface. Combined with integrated lashing rails, floor protection becomes the basis of the entire securing concept.
Panels protected
Scratches and moisture stay out — noticeable when a lease is returned.
Non-slip
Higher friction makes every lashing more effective.
Easy to clean
A coated surface instead of a torn protective mat.
Combinable with rails
Integrated lashing rails make the floor the basis of load securing.
Vice and worktop: A fixed working point in the vehicle

A vice in the vehicle saves the trip back to the workshop — provided the connection carries the forces. Worktops with suitable reinforcement will take a vice; the forces have to be transferred through a rigid connection to floor and wall, not through a single shelf. The vice is often mounted on a pull-out so that it moves out of the vehicle for work and afterwards disappears again to save space.
Rigid connection
Forces transferred to floor and wall instead of through a single shelf.
On the pull-out
Pull it out to work, push it back in afterwards to save space.
Matching worktop material
For cutting and welding work choose a robust surface.
Plan the weight in
A vice and a reinforced worktop weigh something — that belongs in the payload calculation.
Divider: Cab protection, noise protection and a solid stop

The divider separates cab and load space and is at the same time the most stable surface for loading form-fit towards the front. Closed versions protect the cab best and dampen the noise from the load space; versions with a window improve the view to the rear, load-through solutions allow long goods to be carried. Which version suits depends on the load and the vehicle model. Do not forget: the divider secures towards the front — for sideways movement you need additional measures.
Closed
Best cab protection and noticeably less noise while driving.
With a window
The view to the rear is retained — helpful when manoeuvring.
With a load-through opening
Long goods can be pushed through without going on the roof.
Form fit at the front
Loading flush means secured — secure the sides as well.
Labelling and organisation: So that everyone on the team finds the same compartment

Labelling is the cheapest accessory with the greatest effect — especially when several people use the same vehicle. Labels on drawers and trays, tool cards on the perforated panel and a consistent scheme across all vehicles shorten searching time and make missing tools immediately visible when packing. In fleets it pays to define the scheme once and then apply it consistently to every new vehicle.
Fixed places
Labels on drawers and trays define what belongs where.
Tool cards
On the perforated panel a missing tool is noticed immediately when packing.
Consistent across the fleet
One scheme for all vehicles — including when someone swaps vehicles at short notice.
Order in the cab
Trays and holders for delivery notes and tablet instead of loose papers on the seat.
What sets original accessories apart?
The difference from a DIY-store solution lies not in the material but in the connection — six points that count in everyday work:
Connection to the grid
Every part engages with existing mounts — no improvising, no additional holes in the body.
Forces transferred correctly
Holders are designed for their load and transfer it to where the structure can take it.
Compatible across generations
The Sortimo grid has largely been kept compatible — much of it also fits older racking.
Removable leaving few traces
Bolted-on parts can be taken off again when you change vehicles and reused.
Proper electrics
Lighting, sockets and an additional battery are correctly fused and connected with a split charge relay.
Available ex stock
Common items are ready in Essen — when a part is missing during ongoing work, the same day counts.
Retrofitting with a system — in which order?

Anyone retrofitting everything at once spends more than necessary. It makes more sense to start with the topic that costs the most every day: in most businesses that is light in the load space, floor protection and a fixed holder for the ladder or gas bottle. Order and labelling follow once the basic structure is in place — they have the greatest effect as soon as several people use the same vehicle. Electrical fit-out and work bench modules come last, because they need the most precise planning.
Six points to clarify before every retrofit:
Does it fit the existing grid?
A photo of your racking is usually enough for us to check compatibility with older generations.

How much payload is left?
Every retrofit weighs something. With a tight payload that decides the scope and the material.

Does anything have to be drilled?
We use existing points; where holes are needed they are sealed and documented.

What does the lease say?
Bolted parts can be removed leaving few traces; clarify roof holes with the leasing company beforehand.

Is the on-board electrical system enough?
For lighting yes; inverters and charging technology need a second battery and a split charge relay.

Is it an accessory or securing?
A holder organises, a lashing secures. Heavy machines belong on lashing points.

More Accessories & extensions at a glance

Original accessories — individual and efficient
From the mounting bracket to the tool card: original additions sit in the grid without drilling and turn any racking into a tailored solution.

Electrical accessories — mobile power supply
230 V sockets, LED load space lighting and charger mounts for cordless equipment: power where the work happens — connected properly in our workshop.

In-cab organisation — the mobile office
Delivery notes, tablet and pens within reach instead of on the passenger seat: trays and holders turn the cab into a workplace.
Have it retrofitted — or collect the part
Both are possible. For holders, lighting, floor panel, divider and electrical fit-out we take care of planning and installation in our workshop in Essen — usually in a single appointment so that the vehicle is only off the road once. If you fit things yourself, you get the right part from us together with a note on what to watch when connecting it. With older racking a photo is usually enough for us to check which current additions fit the existing grid.
Spare parts instead of buying new
We also stock catches, hinges, handles and holders for older systems. Send us a photo of the defective part — it can usually be replaced individually instead of swapping the whole module.

Ladder holder: inside or on the roof?
The decision depends on how often the ladder is moved and how much load space width you can spare. Mounted inside it stays dry, is quickly to hand and needs no climbing — but it costs width that is then missing for shelving or a walkway. On the roof the load space stays free; in return the weight of the rack counts towards the roof load, and the decisive figure is always the lowest of the roof load, the carrying capacity of the rack system and the remaining payload. A ladder lift brings the ladder to hand height with one movement and pays off as soon as it is loaded and unloaded several times a day.
Load space lighting: planning LEDs properly
Two levels have proven themselves: LED strips in the shelf profiles light pull-outs and compartments directly, ceiling lights provide general brightness throughout the load space. More important than the amount of light is the switching — with a door contact the light comes on with the door and goes off again when it closes, so nobody is left standing in front of a flat battery the next morning. We lay the cable routes when installing the racking so that nothing has to be run visibly afterwards. If 230 V is also to be available, an inverter, a second battery and a split charge relay that protects the starter battery are added.
Floor panel and divider: the two basic parts
A non-slip load space floor protects the sheet metal from scratches and moisture, makes cleaning easier and increases the friction between load and load bed — so it pays off twice, when the vehicle is returned and in load securing. The divider protects the cab, dampens the noise from the load space and provides a solid stop at the front for form-fit loading. Closed versions shield best, a window improves the view to the rear, load-through solutions take long goods. What the divider does not do: prevent sideways movement — that needs additional securing devices.
Stowing gas bottles, cartridges and long goods safely
Containers with operating fluids and hazardous materials never belong loose in the load space. Holders take bottles and cartridges upright and fix them against tipping and sliding; stowed separately from the rest of the material and in a ventilated area. For pipes, battens and profiles there are tubes and long goods mounts that stop individual bars shooting forwards under braking. We provide the space for both as early as the shelf planning — squeezed in between two modules afterwards, it is rarely where it belongs.
Labelling: the cheapest accessory with the greatest effect
As soon as several people use the same vehicle, the marking decides how quickly the work goes. Labels on drawers and trays define fixed places, tool cards on the perforated panel make a missing tool immediately visible when packing. In fleets it pays to define the scheme once and apply it consistently to every new vehicle — then even someone who takes over a different vehicle at short notice finds their way around. The effort amounts to a few hours, the effect lasts for the whole life of the vehicle.

When Accessories & extensions is the right choice
What the system is built for
- Existing racking that is to be extended selectively rather than replaced
- Vehicles in which ladder, gas bottle or long goods have so far travelled loose
- Businesses that pack in the dark in the evening and therefore need task lighting in the load space
- Fleets that want to introduce a consistent labelling scheme across several vehicles
- Vehicles with panel damage in the load space, where a floor panel takes pressure off the return
- Battery-intensive trades that need charger mounts and sockets in the vehicle
Where it is not the best solution
- As a substitute for missing basic racking: individual holders do not turn an empty load space into order
- Roof-mounted equipment on vehicles with tight payload or on electric vans with a tight range budget — the air resistance costs noticeably
- Electrical fit-out done yourself: without a correct split charge relay the additional battery discharges the starter battery
- Holders for a load that actually belongs in properly designed load securing — heavy machines need lashing points, not a clip
- Holes in the roof of a leased vehicle without prior agreement with the leasing company
Accessories & extensions compared
| Retrofit | Solves which problem | Effort | What to watch |
|---|---|---|---|

| Gas bottle holder | a loose bottle becomes a projectile under braking | low | secure mounting and ventilation required |
| LED load space lighting | working in the dark, searching time in the evening | medium, wiring laid in as well | switching via a door contact to avoid a flat battery |
| Floor panel | panel damage, slippery load bed | medium | also increases the friction for load securing |
| Vice on a pull-out | no fixed working point in the vehicle | medium, needs a rigid connection | the connection to floor and wall has to take the forces |
| Divider | load in the cab area, noise and draught | medium | does not prevent sideways movement |
| Labelling | searching time, packing mistakes when drivers change | low | one consistent scheme across all vehicles |
