Finding the right case system — with advice instead of catalogue pages
Which formats a business needs depends less on the trade than on how often things are picked up: whatever is used daily belongs in shallow drawers you can see into; whatever is rare and heavy belongs in closed cases further down the stack. At our Sortimo Station in Essen you can try the formats out with your own tools before you commit — we keep common models in stock.

A well thought-out case system decides how quickly your team works: what is stored sorted is transported sorted and used sorted. That is exactly what the BOXX range is made for — one grid from the shelf to the building site, available from your Sortimo Station in Essen.

L-BOXX, i-BOXX and T-BOXX: the difference at a glance
The three formats solve different tasks. The L-BOXX is the classic tool and machine case in four heights — from the shallow 102 for hand tools to the 374 for a machine with accessories. The i-BOXX is a shallow system drawer that is carried on its own or stacked in a rack and keeps small parts sorted in Insetboxes. The T-BOXX combines both: a small parts range in removable Insetboxes, but with a transparent lid so that you can see the stock without opening it. Because all three share the same footprint, the decision is never exclusive — every level in the same stack can be a different format.
Compatibility: what fits together and what does not
The basic grid has largely been retained across the generations, but the catch geometry has changed. Boxes from different generations therefore sit neatly on top of each other but do not necessarily couple into a locked stack. If you want to add to an existing set, it is best to bring a box along or send us a photo of the catch side — then we can tell you specifically which current formats will click together with it and where a separate level makes more sense.
Securing BOXXes in the vehicle
A locked stack holds together in normal driving but is not in itself a secured load. In van racking, case mounts take on that task: the boxes sit firmly in the shelf and are taken out individually at the job site. Without racking, secure the stack form-fit against the bulkhead or the vehicle wall and additionally with lashing straps via the lashing points in the floor. Cases standing loose on the load bed do not meet the requirements of Section 22 of the German Road Traffic Regulations (StVO).
Insetboxes and inserts: order on the inside
The real time saving happens inside. Insetboxes divide the case into fixed compartments and can be taken out, swapped and refilled individually — so a range moves from the shelf into the case without anything being tipped from one container to another. Foam inserts can be broken out square by square without tools and adapted to the contour of a machine; for many common devices there are also pre-formed inlays. Together they make sure that a missing tool is noticed immediately when packing.

What the system is built for

Where it is not the best solution
- Permanent storage outdoors or in standing water — the standard cases are splash-proof, not sealed
- Very heavy individual machines: handles and catches are designed for the stated load, above that the equipment belongs in a bracket
- Load securing without further measures — a locked stack is not yet a secured load and must also be fixed to the vehicle
- Combining with older third-party cases without checking: the basic grid usually matches, but the catch geometry has changed over the generations
- As theft protection in the vehicle — for that you need a lockable compartment in the racking, not the case
